Bloomington Bandits finish 2nd at Inver Grove Heights tournament

The Bloomington Bandits came up just short of a first place finish at the Inver Grove Heights tournament. The Bandits fell to a team from Woodbury 11-7 in the championship game.

Henry started the game at pitcher, giving up six runs in the first inning. This was not uncommon. The boys gave up seven runs in the first inning of the semifinals game. After his one inning on the mound, Henry moved to shortstop where he made several nice plays. At the plate, he struggled. After getting hit by a pitch in his first at-bat, he doesn't look like himself. He stuck out twice, and ended the day 0-3.

During the semifinals game, Henry hit a clutch triple late in the game to put his team up for good. He finished that game against Burnsville 1-3 with 2 RBIs and 3 runs scored.

On a side note, Henry's MPH hockey team played for the championship at the same time as his baseball game. The MPH '06 team finished second as well.

MPH hockey game to cap off the night

Henry finished his Saturday off with some hockey. His Minnesota Performance Hockey team, comprised of Bloomington Jefferson and Bloomington Kennedy skaters, won 9-0. Henry played one of his best games in a while. He played fast and had great hands. He scored twice and had a handful of assists.

One funny moment during the game, I told him to work on his slap shots during the tournament. It turns out they're not allowed in this tournament. Henry wound-up and was ready to take a slap shot when the referee blow the whistle. Henry was called for a high-sticking -- no penalty, but it stopped play and earned some laughs from the crowd. The shot ended up clinging off the left post -- it was a pretty nice slapper!

Henry's 10AA Bloomington Bandits team finished day one of the Inver Grove Heights tournament 2-0. They beat Lakeville South in the morning 15-3 and Rosemount Blue 13-2 in the afternoon. Henry finished the day: 3-6, 4 runs scored, 1 BB. He also pitched 2 innings with 1 K and 2 runs allowed. He picked up the win in game two, his first pitching win of the season.

Teddy's scary moment at the Preview Cup

Teddy was asked to play in the Preview Cup at Minnesota Made. The Preview Cup is a tournament for the top Mite hockey players in the state. Teddy played on the Mite South team (Henry played on the Adv. Mite South team in the same tournament).

During the championship game, Teddy got tied up with his Machine Orange teammate Liam and Teddy got hauled down by his neck. Teddy turned out to be okay, but had miss the final 20 minutes of the game. His team ended up getting 2nd place.

Meanwhile, Henry's team won the championship, thanks to a game-winning goal by Henry with less than 2 minutes to play in the game.

Carrie Underwood cheers on Teddy's team

It's not uncommon to see former pro hockey players at Minnesota Made, but when a music star walks in -- people pay attention.

Country music star Carrie Underwood stopped by Made to watch Teddy's 2008 Machine Orange team play in the Stars and Stripes AAA Hockey Tournament.

It turns out Underwood, who's husband plays for the Nashville Predators, is friends with the Cullen family. Matt Cullen played with Underwood's husband, Mike Fisher, in Nashville and Cullen's wife and Underwood became friends. Matt Cullen's son, Wyatt, is on Teddy's team.

Mrs. Underwood was very gracious and was very sweet to pose for pictures with a bunch of sweaty 7 and 8 year olds.
